Blue Light Reading Glasses

Ready-made reading glasses with a blue light filter, in +1.00, +1.50 and +2.00, most of them R349. The magnification is what makes small print sharp again; the filter and anti-reflective coating are extras, not a treatment. Choose the weakest strength that lets you read comfortably at your normal distance, usually 35 to 40 cm for a book or a phone. Going too strong is the common mistake, because it pulls your sharp zone uncomfortably close. For a desktop screen at arm’s length, one step weaker than your book strength often works better, so +1.50 if you read with +2.00. These are ready-made readers with the same power in both lenses. They do not correct astigmatism or distance vision, and you should not drive in them. If your eyes need different strengths, or headaches and blur persist, book an eye test with an optometrist first. Men’s, women’s and unisex frames are listed with the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres, so you can match a pair you already find comfortable. Two pairs at R349 come to R698, which clears the R500 line for free standard delivery, and unworn frames can come back within 30 days if the fit is wrong.

Do blue light glasses really help?

Honestly, the evidence is mixed and we would rather say so. A 2023 Cochrane review pooling 17 trials found blue-light filtering lenses probably make little or no difference to eye strain at a screen. Where the evidence is stronger is evening light and sleep. We set out the research in full, including the parts that do not favour the product, on our Information page.

What is the difference between reading strength and prescription?

Reading strengths such as +1.00, +1.50 and +2.00 are ready-made magnification, the same in both lenses. A prescription is measured for your eyes and can differ between them, and can correct astigmatism. If you have astigmatism or different strengths in each eye, see an optometrist rather than ordering a ready-made pair.

Which reading strength should I choose?

If you already wear readers, order the strength you have. If you do not, most people starting to hold text further away are comfortable in +1.00 to +1.50, and the strength usually rises with age. It is a comfort choice rather than a medical one, and an eye test will tell you properly.

How do I work out which frame size suits me?

Every product page lists the model code and its measurements, in the order the industry uses: lens width, bridge width and temple length, all in millimetres. The quickest guide is a pair you already own, since those three numbers are usually printed on the inside of the temple arm. Match those and the fit will be close.
